Forget malls: shopping in Antibes means filling a basket at the market, finding a painting in a rampart-side gallery, and discovering the independent boutiques threaded through the old town’s main lanes. Everything is within a few hundred metres.
The Provençal pantry
Build your haul around the Marché Provençal: olive oils, tapenades, honey and cheeses travel well. Add wine and pastis from the old town’s cellars, and sweets from its bakeries — the classic gifts that actually get used.
Around Cours Masséna, small épiceries fill the gaps the market leaves, and the afternoon craft market (in season) covers the artisan side.
Boutiques and galleries
Rue de la République and pedestrian rue James Close are the boutique spines — fashion, linen, ceramics, design — while the streets under the ramparts concentrate the galleries and workshops, a legacy of the town that seduced Picasso.
Most shops close for lunch and on Sunday afternoons; shop as the locals do, in the morning, then swim.
