Golf came to the Riviera with the Belle Époque aristocracy, and the coast still holds some of the finest courses in France. From Old Antibes, eight of them are within roughly an hour — starting just twenty minutes from your door.
The closest tee: Biot
The Biot Golf Club (20 min) is Antibes’ home course — welcoming and laid-back, 18 holes over 4,511 metres, par 67, designed around the natural beauty of the valley. Perfect for a relaxed holiday round.
The prestige courses of Mougins
The Cannes-Mougins Golf Country Club (30 min) has been one of the Riviera’s most renowned courses since 1978: 6,263 metres, par 72, designed by Alliss and Thomas between two forests, with rivers and water hazards throughout. Nearby, the Royal Mougins Golf Club (35 min) is Robert von Hagge’s 1993 masterpiece — 6,400 metres, par 71, club rental on site.
Into the Provençal countryside
The Golf d’Opio-Valbonne (35 min) unrolls 5,930 metres, par 72, through a 220-hectare park of olive trees and cypresses, to a soundtrack of cicadas. The Saint-Donat course near Grasse (35 min), designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr in 1993, offers 18 holes over 6,031 metres, par 71. Mandelieu-La Napoule (35 min) adds two more 18-hole courses — the historic Golf Club Cannes-Mandelieu under its parasol pines, and the Riviera Golf 'Domaine de Barbossi' by Robert Trent Jones Sr.
Worth the drive
The Monte-Carlo Golf Club at La Turbie (60 min), founded in 1911, plays 5,683 metres, par 71, at 900 metres above the sea — with views over the whole of Provence between shots. And at Tourrettes (55 min), the Domaine de Terre Blanche holds two of Europe’s most beautiful courses by Dave Thomas: Le Château (par 71, 5,939 m) and Le Riou (par 72, 6,433 m), both impeccably maintained, with club rental available.
